Babson Park, FL – Webber International University has received a $10,000 Impact Polk grant from the George W. Jenkins Fund within GiveWell Community Foundation to support Hometown Needs Based Funding for Health Sciences Scholarships, which provides greater access to students seeking careers as registered nurses or occupational therapy assistants.
The institution understands the community’s critical workforce needs for nurses and occupational therapy assistants and acknowledges an opportunity to support citizens in Polk County’s underserved areas with a Hometown Need-Based Funding for Health Sciences Scholarships.
The financial responsibilities for those interested in careers in the healthcare industry can be great and this scholarship will provide individuals an opportunity to lessen some of those responsibilities. Awarding scholarships to students in need will help offset some of the costsassociated with pursuing health science programs such as textbooks, testing materials, scrubs, program kits, and other potential costs.
This past April, the university held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Health Sciences Center. During the event, Dr. Nelson Marquez, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Research stated that “…Webber is a change agent for the community by providing access to quality nursing and occupational therapy assistant programs that would lead to rewarding careers in healthcare.”
