Internship & Volunteer Opportunities

Why Internships and Volunteer Opportunities Matter
Gaining experience through internships and volunteer work is one of the most important steps you can take while in college. These opportunities allow you to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world settings, build your professional network, and develop skills that will set you apart from other graduates. It’s never too early to start—whether you’re just beginning your academic journey or nearing graduation, making time for these experiences will enhance your resume and give you a competitive edge in the job market.

By taking on internships and volunteer work, you’ll also:

  • Gain Practical Experience: These experiences help you put theory into practice and build confidence in your field of study.
  • Expand Your Network: Internships and volunteer opportunities connect you with professionals who can offer mentorship, job leads, and career advice.
  • Boost Your Resume: Employers seek candidates with not only a degree but also relevant experience. Internships and volunteer work will make you a standout candidate.
  • Discover Your Passion: These opportunities allow you to explore different career paths and help you make informed decisions about your future.

Finding Internship Opportunities
At Webber, we encourage students to take advantage of every chance to gain hands-on experience. Internship opportunities can be found through Handshake, where employers actively seek Webber students for internships and job roles. Some opportunities may also be directly emailed from Career Services or shared by your program’s internship coordinator or faculty members. It’s important to explore these resources regularly to find opportunities that align with your career goals.

If your degree program requires an internship for graduation, remember that you must meet all pre-requisites before using the internship for course credit. Additionally:

  • Register for the Internship Course: You must be officially enrolled in the internship course.
  • Get Approval Before Starting: Before beginning any internship that will count towards your degree, ensure you receive approval from your internship coordinator.

Failure to meet these requirements will prevent the internship from counting toward your course credit, so make sure you follow the process correctly to gain the full benefit of the experience.

By prioritizing internships and volunteer work during your time at Webber, you’ll set yourself up for success and ensure that you leave college with the degree—and the experience—that employers are looking for.

Internship Coordinators for Internship Courses:

Job Fairs & Employer Networking Events

Job Fairs and Employer Networking Events: Why They Matter
Participating in job fairs and employer networking events is one of the most valuable steps you can take in preparing for your future career. These events give you the chance to meet directly with potential employers, learn more about career opportunities in your field, and make meaningful professional connections. Taking these opportunities seriously and presenting yourself at your best is key—your first impression could lead to an internship, a job offer, or valuable advice that helps guide your career path.

Job fairs and networking events are more than just meet-and-greets; they are opportunities to showcase your skills, ask important questions, and gain insights into what employers are looking for. Dress professionally, come prepared with a polished resume, and be ready to confidently discuss your goals and experiences.

Annual Career Fair
At Webber International University, we host an Annual Career Fair every fall, right here on campus. This event brings together a wide range of employers from various industries, providing students with the perfect platform to explore career paths, discuss internships, and learn about potential job openings. The career fair is an invaluable resource, helping you make direct connections with recruiters who are actively seeking new talent.

Employer Networking on Campus
In addition to the career fair, Webber regularly invites employers to set up booths on campus, giving students the chance to interact with industry professionals throughout the year. Employers are here to provide guidance on entering the workforce, discuss volunteer, internship, or job opportunities, and offer advice on career planning. These visits allow you to ask questions, explore potential career paths, and gain professional insight—all without leaving campus.

These events are an essential part of your career preparation journey, and we encourage all students to take full advantage of them. Participating in job fairs and networking events can set you apart, open doors to new opportunities, and give you the confidence to succeed in your chosen field.
