About the Elementary Education Program

The elementary education program prepares candidates to teach using a variety of methods and strategies that promote student achievement and success in children at the K – 6 grade levels. Candidates will learn about child development and the fundamentals of teaching the elementary level using a learner-centered approach. The program’s curriculum also includes components in instructional technology and digital teaching and learning.

The primary mission of the Elementary Education program is to offer a high quality, research-driven program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree and initial certification. The Elementary Education degree prepares candidates to teach children in grades K-6. Teacher candidates explore the process of teaching and learning through an integrative, constructive approach that includes opportunities for field-based learning and practical experiences in the school setting. The Elementary Education program provides candidates with a strong understanding and skill base in pedagogical studies that continue to make our graduates notable as they pursue their teaching profession.
