Webber International University Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Babson Park, Florida

For Immediate Release

Founded on April 6th, 1927 by financial guru, industrialist, and economist Roger Babson (who also founded Babson College in Massachusetts), Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida will be celebrating its 90th anniversary on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 at noon with an open to the public picnic lunch.

Babson, together with his wife Grace Knight, founded the private, not-for-profit, SACSCOC accredited college as the first school chartered under Florida’s then new educational and charitable laws, and was one of the first colleges of business for women in the nation.

“I sit in Roger Babson’s old office,” said Dr. Keith Wade, Webber’s 12th President & CEO.  “One of my little indulgences is occasionally pulling one of his books off the shelf and reading from a page at random. ‘I am presenting business simply as one of the best means of rendering service today,’ is one of the little gems in his Finding a Job, a 1933 bestselling self-help book for young people, and one of my favorites.  I think we’ve stayed true to that vision, turning out thousands of well-equipped graduates who have provided not only for themselves and their families, but built and led businesses which have fed their communities as well.”

While initially a women’s school, Webber now hosts men and women from over 50 different nations. Degrees at the Florida campus include Accounting, Computer Information Systems Management, Corporate Communications, Finance, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Management, Marketing, Criminal Justice Management, Sport Business Management, General Business Studies, and Elementary Education as well as MBA, MBA with an emphasis in Accounting, MBA with an emphasis in International Business, MBA with an emphasis in Criminal Justice Management, and MBA with an emphasis in Sport Business Management.

Joining Webber as a branch campus in 2011, St. Andrews University (formerly St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, North Carolina) is a comprehensive liberal arts university which traces its roots back to the 1896 founding of its predecessor Flora Macdonald College. Majors at the North Carolina campus include Biology, Business Administration, Communications, Education (Elementary Education with K-6 Licensure, Middle Grades Education, Physical Education with K-12 Licensure, Special Education), English and Creative Writing, Interdisciplinary Studies, Forensic Science, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Social Science, Psychology, Sport and Recreation Studies, Therapeutic Horsemanship, and Visual & Performing Arts. Numerous concentrations exist within these majors.

Each campus features highly qualified faculty, small class size, career focused curriculum, and a wide array of intercollegiate sports and other activities. Recognized as a Princeton Review Best in the Southeast college, a U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Colleges designee, and a GI Jobs America’s Most Military Friendly School. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, with additional specialty accreditations.
