Webber International University Announces Tuition Freeze for 17/18 School Year

Like most colleges and universities, operating costs at Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida are skyrocketing.  Health insurance premiums have doubled.  From eggs to toilet paper, electricity to milk, costs are up across the board.  You name it and the price has likely gone up.  And, most schools, Webber included, have had little choice but to pass these increased costs along.

So, when the 90 year old small, private, not-for-profit university (with campuses in Babson Park, FL and Laurinburg, NC) today announced its tuition, room, and board rates for the 2017/18 academic year, there was something surprising which you don’t see a lot at colleges and universities today:  a 0% hike.

“We’re not raising tuition a penny next year,” said Dr. Keith Wade, the University’s President & CEO.   “Same for room and board.  Zero change.  Associates, bachelors, MBA, budget dorm, luxury dorm, meal plan, application fee, graduation fee…  zero change for next year.”   Student insurance and books, items whose price the University does not influence, are not included in the freeze.

“The reality is that we’re not a rich school. Tuition, room, board, and help from our friends pay the bills.  We budget at break-even,” said Wade.  “The other reality is that while we are extraordinarily proud of our affordability, our average student debt, and our job placement rates, most of our students and their families are sacrificing a good deal to be here.  That higher education is a good investment doesn’t make it inexpensive.  So this seemed like the right thing to do.  We’re a 501(c)(3), so we’ll do a bit more fundraising.  We’re a business school, so we’ll find some ways to cut a few costs and run a little leaner.  We’ll make it work.”

Webber has guaranteed 2016/2017 tuition, room, and board pricing for the 2017/2018 academic year for returning students who finalize their registration before leaving summer vacation, and for new and transfer students whose enrollment is complete by July 31st, 2017.  As is always the case, the student’s ultimate net cost of attendance is based upon a number of factors, so the University recommends filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Loan as soon as it opens on October 1st, 2016.

Established in 1927 by Roger Babson as the first college chartered under Florida’s then new charitable and educational laws and one of the first schools of business for women in the nation, Webber International University now educates men and women from over 50 different nations.  Students at Webber’s Florida campus major in one of the many disciplines of business offered at the associates, bachelors, and masters level through traditional day, accelerated night and weekend, and entirely on-line formats.  Joining Webber as a branch campus in 2011, and featuring a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum, St. Andrews University was established by merger in 1961 but traces its roots back to the 1896 founding of its predecessor Flora Macdonald College. The University features highly qualified faculty, highly engaged staff, small class size, and a wide array of intercollegiate sports and other extracurricular activities.  The University has been recognized as a Princeton Review Best in the Southeast College, a US News and World Reports America’s Best Colleges designee, and a GI Jobs America’s Most Military Friendly School. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and many programs enjoy additional programmatic accreditations.
