ESL Admissions

Consistent with the university’s mission to prepare students for “careers in the worldwide business environment,” the American Language Institute provides opportunities for international students to study English in the United States and prepare for business careers or transfer to another U.S. college or university. The institute also promotes cultural understanding on campus and abroad with the view toward enhancing normal business activities.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Application
    Submit the ESL Application for Admissions either online or by submitting the paper copy. There is a $75 non-refundable application fee that must be paid with the application.

  2. Information Release Form
    Family or friends helping you with the admissions process? Make sure you submit the Information Release Form listing their names. We are not allowed to release any of your personal information to third parties without your consent.

  3. Student Visa
    International Students studying in the U.S. are required to obtain an F-1 student visa prior to their arrival to the U.S. using the form I-20. WIU will issue the form I-20 once an international student has submitted the Certification of Financial Responsibility along with proof of financial funds.

ADMISSION STANDARDS

Acceptance into the ESL program is fairly simple. The student just needs to apply and meet the requirements for the student visa. A basic understanding of the English language would be beneficial.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • Fall acceptance – applications must submit by August 1
  • Spring acceptance – applications must be submitted by December 1

International Applicants are encouraged to apply a lot earlier than the deadlines shown.
