Dr. Thomas Aaron Associate Professor - Sport Business Management Dr. Thomas C Aaron, Associate Professor, joined the Webber International University faculty as Chair of the Sport Business Management department in August 2002. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville, and his master’s and doctorate from Florida State University. His area of expertise is Sport Law and Risk Management. Dr. Aaron teaches at both the undergraduate (Introduction to Sport Management, Sport Business Administration, Legal Issues & Risk Management in Sport, Field Experience, and Sport Management Internship) and graduate (MBA 675 – Management and Leadership Theory in Sport) levels. Dr. Aaron is a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM), the Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport (FAHPERD), and the Sport & Recreation Law Association (SRLA). While regularly attending sport conferences such as the Athletic Business Conference (Orlando, Florida), and the Panhellenic Association of Sport Economists & Managers International Conference on the Economics, the Management, and the Marketing of Sports (Athens, Greece), he also has presented numerous times at the regional FAHPERD conferences and nationally at the Sport & Recreation Law Association conference in. In addition to teaching a full course load, Dr. Aaron is also the faculty advisor to the WIU Sport Business Management Club. The purpose of this club is to get each member actively involved in the community, professional organizations, and the field of sport business management. Through projects, volunteer work, and community involvement members develop professional skills, networks, and a better understanding of the sport industry. An emphasis is placed on involvement, professionalism, and experiential learning to better prepare students interested in the field. Sport Business Management Club members raise thousands of dollars yearly to fund trips to conferences and job fairs, produce local and regional sporting events and give back to the community (YMCA, LIVESTRONG). Members have worked and interned with such organizations and events as Super Bowl XXXIX, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Orlando Magic, Nike, NASDAQ Open, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, IMG, Florida State Seminoles, Cleveland Indians, etc. Dr. Aaron was born and raised in West Frankfort, Illinois. He currently resides in Orlando, Florida but also maintains a home in Babson Park near the University. He has also lived in Germany and enjoys traveling internationally. Some of his favorite locations/activities include: Edinburgh, Scotland, England, France, “Running of the Bulls” in Spain, traveling through the Sahara in North Africa, Venice, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Athens, Greece, and Moscow and Siberia in Russia. Hobbies include anything sport & fitness related including running, working-out, surfing/body boarding, skiing, tennis, beach volleyball, soccer, etc.
