Job Postings

Director of Career Services and Community Outreach

Webber International University (Babson Park, Florida; www.Webber.edu) has an immediate opening for a Director of Career Services and Community Outreach.

Webber has, for decades, had one of the best job placement rates in the state of Florida (often the best). And, while it’s a team effort – the focus on preparing our graduates for great careers begins even before they are admitted and continues for life – much of our success depends upon the zeal, dedication, devotion and personal efforts of our Director of Career Services and Community Outreach.

About the Job

There are two major components of this job: preparing students, and representing the University, its students, and its graduates to the community.

In preparing students, the Director will teach our required Career Development Class, organize our annual major career fair and smaller major specific hiring events, coordinate with other local institutions for regional events, and evaluate, coach, and counsel work bound students (and occasional alumni who are transitioning from one career to the next). Webber measures its success one successful graduate at a time, and employment is a major measure of this success.

In representing the University, the Director will attend various events – from Chamber of Commerce luncheons to ribbon cuttings to industry specific events – on behalf of the university, for the purpose of promoting the University, its students, and its programs. He or she will also act as the brand custodian, safeguarding the integrity of the University’s brands, logos and other intellectual property, and coordinating with our website and other service providers to insure that the University is presented in a consistent and positive manner.

As a natural outflow of these two responsibilities, being a salesperson for the University’s traditional undergraduate, night/weekend adult completion, and MBA programs is an essential part of the position, with lead generation and referrals being another important measure of success.

Typical Job Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of Career Services including budgeting, assessments and strategic planning;
• Implement and maintain an online career management system;
• Supervise professional and student staff;
• Establish and maintain relationships with local and regional employers;
• Coordinate career events including career fairs;
• Provide employability skills instruction through a required three credit hour for-credit course and individual student counseling;
• Work with faculty internship coordinator to assist students in obtaining internship opportunities;
• Serve on University committees as assigned
• Provide professional guidance in a confidential setting to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students and first-year alumni which includes assessment; information on careers, occupation and employers; identification and clarification of personal values and goals; and decision-making;
• Provide manual and computerized testing services to evaluate interests and preferences;
• Assist in coordinating interviews on-campus, off-campus, at job fairs, etc.;
• Recruit local and regional employers for career fairs;
• Build relations with corporate organizations to provide job opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students of WIU;
• Assist with fall and spring mock interviews for students in career development class
• Maintain job postings;
• Assist with New Student Orientation, Preview Days, and Admissions events as needed; and
• Maintain close working relationship with admissions, faculty advisors and alumni director.

Essential Things to Know About the University

We are a high quality, but deliberately small, residential university located in a suburban area of Central Florida less than an hour from Tampa and Orlando. Established in 1927 by Roger Babson as the first school chartered under Florida’s then new charitable and educational laws, and one of the first schools of business for women in the nation, we are a SACSCOC accredited, not-for-profit student and learning-centric teaching school. Roughly 400 of our 600 traditional undergraduate students live on campus. Most of our traditional undergraduates play a sport. Our students represent most states in the United States, and over fifty other countries.

We’re cutting edge in lots of things – part of the reason our job placement rates are so extraordinary is we are using exceptional professors to teach what our business partners tell us is essential. We have strong partnerships with the community and deliver a highly relevant education.

But we’re old fashioned in the areas that really matter. We know our students, and not just inside the classroom. Our professors actually teach. And we focus intently on developing the whole student. And, central to this, is our commitment to students. Consequently, our Director of Career Services and Community Outreach must be a consummate professional who brings to the job a dynamic personality, sense of balance, commitment to excellence, and true passion for positively impacting the lives of others, one student success at a time.

We are a small, not-for-profit university serving “normal kids”, many of whom are first in family to go to college. Consequently, our pay and benefits are competitive with other small, tuition driven not-for-profit private colleges. We do, however, offer a 403(b) retirement plan, partially subsidized insurance, generous vacation/sick/and holiday pay, and tuition waivers for qualified employees (and full or partial waivers for spouses and dependent children), amongst other benefits.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree and 18+ graduate credit hours in a closely related field;
• At least two years of experience in a field closely related to Career Development (HR, counseling, job placement, recruiting, etc.), preferably in progressively more responsible positions;
• Prior teaching experience;
• Excellent to extraordinary and proven ability to work with a wide variety of people – students, administrators, faculty, and external constituencies;
• Excellent to extraordinary and proven written and oral communications skills;
• Ability to work occasional night, weekend, or holiday;
• Ability to deal with pressure, and handle multiple deadlines and priorities;
• Ability to deal with highly sensitive information;
• Driver’s license with good driving record; and
• Because of the nature of this position, a background check is required.
