Career Services Career Events: Career fairs are a great way to explore career options, network & establish contacts, and learn about professional opportunities. Freshman through MBA students can benefit from these experiences, if you are prepared! Webber International University will host a Career Fair in the Sabbagh Athletic Center on Thursday, November 10th from 9:30am-11:30am with an employer lunch to follow from 12pm-1:30pm. Please contact the Director of Career Services & Community Outreach at MontalvoDS@webber.edu for more information. Why attend a Career Fair? It’s a great way to explore career fields, expand your network of professional contacts and learn about internship and job opportunities. What should I wear? Professional dress is expected from all Career Fair attendees. Jeans, athletic wear, or club attire are not appropriate. If unsure, then dress conservatively. How should I prepare for a Career Fair? Review, update, and make copies of your resume. Stop by Career Services if you need help developing your resume or for proofreading. Practice your introduction!! Be ready to offer an employer a strong hand-shake and be ready to discuss your major, experience, and qualifications. Research the companies that will be attending. Find out about the products and services they offer or provide. Are there any positions/internships available? What is the company’s mission statement? Ask for business cards. This will allow you to follow-up with each employer and maintain that contact in your network. NETWORKING is key!! How can the Career Services office help? Practice Interviews: Interviews are just like big games in sports. You would not show up to play in the big game without having practiced beforehand; just like you should not show up to an interview without having practiced. All students, especially seniors, should make an appointment for a practice interview. Our staff will treat each practice interview just like a real interview. We’ll tape student responses and then review them one-on-one with each student; offering suggestions and helpful hints throughout the process. Individual Career Advising: For those just beginning to think about which direction they want their career to go, we have a Career Planning Packet that our staff with work through with you. This process will help determine what your long term goals are and what steps need to be taken to get there. This is a great starting point for a freshman or anyone at the beginning stages of their career prep. Typically, students visit the career services center to have their resume reviewed or to get help writing a cover letter, but our staff can also help students clarify their personal interests, skills and values, while understanding how they impact your career choices. The more information you have, the better decision you’ll make. We encourage you to stop by our office to discuss your job/internship search, career goals and occupational interests. Workshops: We are available to speak with athletic teams, classes and campus clubs, giving short presentations on your choice of career topics including, etiquette, resume writing, and interviewing skills. These workshops can serve as introductions or refreshers. We are happy to work with your group to personalize a workshop for you.
