The residential life program at Webber International University works to complement the out of classroom education of our students. We strive to provide a learning environment and related programs and activities that support the educational goals of the students and the University. These programs and activities, as well as our staff's daily interactions with students are intended to provide growth and developmental opportunities, and encourage a safe, secure and accepting environment for all involved.

1. How do I apply to live on campus?

All freshmen are expected to live on campus. A housing application will be sent to you automatically. Once you return the completed forms to us, we will begin the housing process.

2. Can I change my room assignment?

A great deal of time is spent reading housing applications and making careful matches.

Room changes may be granted only after all options are exhausted. No room changes are granted during the first two weeks of each semester.

3. Will I be able to store belongings over the summer?

Unfortunately, summer storage cannot be offered. The summer is the ideal time for maintenance and repairs in the halls and belongings would hinder this process. Any belongings left in rooms will be discarded.

4. May I get a refrigerator for my room?

Each room in the residence halls are provided with cable access and a Micro Fridge. A Micro Fridge is an appliance which comes complete with a microwave, a freezer, and a refrigerator. It is energy efficient and safe (no exposed heating elements) and meets all fire and safety codes for multiple unit housing. A fee is assessed for each room for each semester. Residents are not permitted to bring their own refrigerators.

5. May I have a microwave or other cooking appliances?

Coffee makers, and hot pots are permitted, but any appliance with an exposed heating element (hot plates, toaster ovens, etc.) are not permitted for safety reasons. Be sure to discuss appliances with your roommate so you both don't bring the same things.

6. May I bring a pet to school?

Please leave all pets at home. The residence halls are not the ideal place for a pet and we ask that you please not bring any pets inside.

7. May I bring my own furniture?

No. Each room is furnished with a bed, desk, and dresser for each student. All University provided furniture must remain in your room.

8. Do I need to bring my own window coverings?

Each residence hall room is equipped with vertical blinds.

9. What about telephone and cable?

Each room is pre-wired for cable television and a fee is assessed per student per semester. Telephone service is contracted with the local phone company by the individual student. Local phone company representatives are present at orientation and can answer questions and take orders for service. If you miss these representatives at orientation you can contact Steve Warner in the Student Development Office to set up service. At times, the university has to make last minute room changes and we suggest waiting to contract for service until you have moved in.

10. Can I smoke in my room?

All rooms in the residence halls are non-smoking. Students are welcome to smoke outside as long as it does not interfere with others and ashtrays are used. We ask that you please not throw cigarette butts on the ground.

11. How will I have a voice in what goes on in my residence hall?

The best way to have a voice on any matter at Webber International University is to get involved with Student Government. Membership is open to any interested student. Additionally, feel free to make suggestions or comments to any member of the Student Development staff or your Resident Assistant.

12. What should I do to ensure the security of my property?

You should always keep your room locked. Do not leave cash, jewelry, or other valuable items in the open. Never give or loan out your key to anyone, not even a close friend.

If you notice anything or anyone unusual in your building, please report this immediately to a staff member.

Rental insurance is recommended and pamphlets are available in the Student Development office

13. Are there laundry facilities available?

Yes. Each residence hall has a laundry room. The laundry rooms are for resident students only. Laundry cards are issued only to students who live on campus.

14. What if I get sick?

A nurse is available to students on weekdays. Her office is located in the Babson Center and her schedule is posted on the door. The nurse will see you free of charge and refer you as necessary.
o What Can I Bring to School?

Making your room your home

Remember most students come with too much, very few come with too little. Your room already comes with a bed, dresser or built-in storage, closet, desk and chair. All rooms are carpeted although you may want to add a decorative touch on top. You can easily set up internet and telephone service through if you so choose.

Appliances

Televisions, VCRs, stereos, CD players and radios are all fine to bring to campus with you. You may want to check with your roommate first so you won't have two of everything.

Refrigerators

It is very convenient to have a small refrigerator in your room to keep snacks and drinks cold. A micro fridge (combined microwave and refrigerator, and the only microwave permitted) is provided by the Housing Department for each room.

What about pets?

Please leave your pets at home. Life on campus is just not compatible with pet ownership. Many of your fellow students are allergic to animals and even the most well cared for animals carry parasites such as fleas, ticks, and mites. Because of the demands on your time as a student, pets would be unattended for long periods and that would not be fair to the animals or to your neighbors.

Getting your mail

All on campus students are assigned a U.S. Postal Service Box at the Post Office across the street from campus in addition to an on campus mail box in the Babson Center. Mail and packages should be sent directly to the Post Office Box in the Post Office. Students may sign up for the Post Office Box when they arrive on campus. The Post Office Box is free of charge except for a key deposit.
