Complete Your CFL
The CFL is WIU’s Financial Aid & Certification Form for receiving & maximizing financial aid. You will be required to create an account with Nelnet before completing a WIU form.
To apply for a Stafford Student Loan, students must first file the free application for Federal Student aid at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
Students must be at least enrolled as half time student to be eligible for a loan.
Freshman may receive up to $3,500.00, sophomores up to $4,500.00, and juniors and seniors up to $5,500.00 in a year. An additional $2000 Unsubsidized loan is available for all students if needed. One semester loans will be prorated and must be allocated in two disbursements.
*Please remember the User ID and password that you have chosen, you may need it to complete other WIU forms.
I. Complete the CFL & Request a Stafford Loan
ALL domestic students are required to complete a CFL. If you wish to request a Stafford Loan, please click on the appropriate link below.
STEPS:
1. Complete the CFL and submit it.
2. Click on the link to finish the loan application process which is found on the confirmation page. You will then be directed to a list of lenders for the Stafford Loan.
3. Choose a lender and follow the link to their website.
4. Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) in its entirety. You should reach a confirmation page when you are finished. You have not completed the process until you have reached the confirmation page.
5. The Stafford Entrance Counseling must also be completed before receiving a Stafford Loan by going to http://www.mapping-your-future.org.

II. Complete the CFL only
ALL domestic students are required to complete a CFL. If you do not intend to request a Federal Stafford Loan, then choose the appropriate link below and complete the CFL only.

III. Complete the Master Promissory Note
If you have already completed your CFL and indicated you want to borrow a Stafford Loan but did not follow through and complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN):
1. Click the “Go to Lender List” link below to be directed to a list of recommended lenders for your Stafford Loan, or choose your preferred lender.
2. Choose a lender and follow the link to their website.
3. Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) in its entirety. You should reach a confirmation page when you are finished. You have not completed the process until you have reached that confirmation page.
4. The Stafford Entrance Counseling must also be completed before receiving a Stafford Loan by going to http://www.mapping-your-future.org.

IV. To adjust your loan request once you have completed the CFL, click on the link below. Increase, decrease, cancel or reinstate a Stafford Loan.
