Consistent with the university’s mission to prepare students for “careers in the worldwide business environment,” the American Language Institute provides opportunities for international students to study English in the United States and prepare for business careers or transfer to another U.S. college or university. The institute also promotes cultural understanding on campus and abroad with the view toward enhancing normal business activities.
The American language Institute’s Mission:
The American Language Institute (ALI) provides a comprehensive program of English language instruction and evaluation to maximize learning and successfully prepare students for studies at U.S. colleges and universities. ALI makes every effort to integrate students into a small campus environment and to provide effective support services as well as facilitate student’s use of campus and community resources. The American Language Institute at Webber International University also extends programs internationally to facilitate English language education beyond university campuses and to facilitate the transfer of international students through counseling and evaluation.

American Language Institute Programs:
Language Evaluation and Advanced Placement (LEAP):
This program is for students with advanced English language skills. LEAP ahead in your program by receiving credit for skills you can demonstrate and courses completed at your home university. Through the LEAP process a student can receive credit and begin their business studies immediately.
Language Studies Abroad:
Webber’s American Language Institute provides opportunities to study the English language and American culture on campuses outside the United States. In addition to language learning activities and programs, courses in critical approaches to American literature and cultural approaches to film are also offered.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Program (WIU Main Campus in Florida)
Study English in the United States in a small university campus environment. Webber ESL provides excellence in language learning and cultural activities to provide skills and orient students to studying on an American university campus. Cohorts in the Webber ESL program also take a meaningful study trip within the Continental United States. Placement in ESL courses is made through diagnostic evaluation and performance on the institutionally administered TOEFL exam.
